ORMISTON HOUSE, Belfast, was built in 1867 to designs by David Bryce of Edinburgh for James Combe, a Scots-born iron-founder and linen manufacturer (Combe Barbour).

This is a Scottish-Baronial style mansion house with crow-stepped gables, a bartizan turret and gargoyles.

''Stuart his team carried out a very professional job and I would have no hesitation in recommending them. His breadth of experience was invaluable, his attention to detail and customer service was first class and it will be exceptional to find anybody who can surpass it.''

Mr & Mrs Cronin, Kildare

''Stuart Penrose is very hands on and controlled our project on a daily basis; we felt this was an important part of the service goals. He was also understanding of my concerns and was very reassuring.''

Mr Philip Hodgkinson, Belfast

Bricks and Mortar: Roofing needn't be over the top.

THOSE finishing touches when refurbishing an old home can really make a world of difference. But nothing will help the look of a house better than the correct style of roof - often the last thing owners think of when they are designing their home. The style of the roof should fit in with the windows and brickwork. If the remodelling of the main body of the house comes from one era and the roofing comes from another, there will be a distinct imbalance. The right roof can enhance a property while the wrong one can be a disaster. There are many roofing products on the market so the advice of an expert is essential. A good contractor should be affiliated to one of many federations and owners should always ask for proof of membership. Although the initial cost can be a bit higher, it will prove to be a sound long-term investment. A spokesman for Stuart Penrose Professional Roofing Contractors says: "Problems go undetected until the first spell of bad weather. "More often than not the roofing contractor has been paid in full. "Unfortunately, the home owners can learn to their cost that bad roofing can be an expensive procedure to correct." Professional roofing advice and assistance is available from experts all over Ireland. For full information contact Stuart Penrose in Carrickfergus on 028 93373010
